Day 3 at Augusta

Saturday is known as moving day at the Masters and a glance at the leaderboard from days 2 and 3 shows just why, showing the importance of positioning yourself on Thursday and Friday before a weekend surge.

2 players really epitomised this approach to the day's play as both Peter Hanson (65) and Phil (66) Mickelson, shot up the leaderboard from -2 to see themselves at 9 and 8 under respectively going into the final day's play. Neither dropped a single shot and the stand out feature was Mickelson managing to make -6 under on the back 9 with the help of an eagle at 13, difficult on any course let alone at Augusta. He manages to save his best golf with the green jacket on the line and the rest of the field will be wary of just this. It is the Swede that leads by a shot though, who was equally impressive in a nerveless display as he steadily notched up birdie after birdie, but both will be wary of the big names below them.

I was really disappointed to see the progress of our British players, Harrington (68) and Westwood (72) are both sitting at -4, 5 shots off the lead and capable of mounting a charge on championship Sunday but apart from those 2 our prospects seem bleak. McIlroy's day was nothing like his infamous sunday last time round but he never gained any momentum and at 1 over his challenge is effectively over, with Luke Donald suffering a similar story. There are a worrying amount of Americans at the top of the standings so I'll be switching my allegiance to European from here on in and it would be nice to see Oosthuizen win it as he seems a nice guy, not that Americans aren't!

I can't wait for what is one of my favourite nights of the sporting calendar and will be hoping to see Harrington and Westwood mount Tiger-esque charges of their own. If thats too much to ask then any one of Hanson, Oosthuizen (-7) or Stenson (-4) has to find a way to stop the US assault.
